Top 10 Activities for Teens

Nip boredom before it begins with these activities that are sure to please even the pickiest of teens.

Teenagers can be a little harder to keep occupied than young kids, and they’re not always up for activities with the whole family. These events are your teen’s opportunity to get away from screens for a few hours and engage with summer in the city.

  1. Lol at Improvaganza         2022 Dates TBD

Rapid Fire Theatre’s 10-day festival brings you some of the best sketch comedy and improv shows in the country. Shows are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and feature improv teams from all over the world. They even host workshops for those interested in putting their funny bone to good use.

  1. Test your bravery at Snow Valley Aerial Park       119 Whitemud Dr NW

Edmonton’s own aerial park tower is the first of its kind to be built in Canada, with four levels of aerial activities like leaping across suspended tires and riding a bicycle across a tight rope. When it comes to fun at this aerial obstacle course, the sky is the limit.

  1. Go pedal boating at Rundle or Hawrelak Park

Both Rundle and Hawrelak Park rent out pedal boats on their man-made lakes during the summer months. Pedal boats are a good way to get teens active and outdoors, while providing ample opportunity to hang out with their fellow peddlers.

K-Days

  1. Check out the midway at K-Days       2022 Dates TBD

10 days of fried food, great concerts and rollercoasters make K-Days the teen event of the summer. Edmonton’s exhibition is held at Northlands Park, and encompasses everything from carnival games and midway rides, to rodeo events and shopping.

  1. Get lost in the Edmonton Corn Maze       26171 Garden Valley Rd

Spruce Grove, AB

Grab a few friends and get lost in Edmonton’s largest corn maze! Wind your way through the massive maze guided by themed questionnaires. Don’t know which country corn was first cultivated in? Take your best guess and hope you don’t get too lost in the maze’s five kilometers of winding paths.

  1. Go green at Sustainival      To be Determined for 2022

This eco-carnival was created as a way to encourage people to think about sustainability. The entire event runs on renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and biodiesel—impressive considering the fair boasts over two dozen rides. It’s a truly thrilling way to learn about going green.

  1. Splash around at Borden Natural Swimming Pool       7615 Borden Park Rd NW

Last year, the city of Edmonton opened Canada’s first man-made, natural, public pool. Located in Borden Park, the pool is surrounded by sand, and uses aquatic plants and filters to clean the water instead of chlorine. The pool has strict rules swimmers must abide by in order to keep the plants and pool healthy, so make sure to read them before stopping by.

  1. Visit Fort Edmonton Park        7000 143 St  –   Closed for 2019.

Wander through the streets of 1885, 1905 and 1920 before making your way to the 1846 Hudson’s Bay Fort. Teens can engage with Edmonton’s history at this living museum, and see how the settlers survived without cell phones.

  1. Go paintballing       53129 Range Rd 13

Stony Plain, AB

Young Guns gives teens the opportunity to battle it out with friends in a riveting game of paintball. Located twenty minutes west of the city, the facility has twenty themed fields to play on. From a motel complete with sliding windows and appliances, to a three-acre “jungle” of thick brush, there’s no shortage of opportunity for adventure.

  1. YEGyouth

Put on by the city of Edmonton, the YEGyouth drop-in programs offer teens the opportunity to meet new people, develop new skills and show off their talents. With events from movie nights at the pool to a skateboard video competition and music festival, there’s something for every teen.
