Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody
June 11, 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini bursts with energy and passion. It was an immediate hit with audiences. Joni Mitchell said, “This piece sent me into raptures. To me, it was a tender entreaty for the misunderstood.”
Kurt Weill—best known for The Threepenny Opera—called his innovative and tuneful Second Symphony a “symphonic fantasy.” It is a unique work of tremendous intensity by a rarely performed composer.
Richard Strauss’ ultra-romantic tone poem Don Juan scandalized and delighted audiences at its 1889 premiere—never before had they heard such graphically suggestive music.
This concert will include an intermission.
