Foster creativity and help your kids find their inner performer at KidsFringe! The festival has an array of free activities, stories, crafts and performances just for kids. Check out the Face Painting Palace and watch your child transform into their favourite character, or head over to the Book Nook to see beloved stories brought to life.
Zip around at Meadowview Dinosaur Park Leduc, AB
Located in the Meadowview neighborhood in Leduc, this park is a modern stone-age good time for youngsters. Nearly every surface in the park fits the dino theme—including a triceratops slide, boulder stairs and a “fossilized” T-Rex—but the main attraction is a mini zip line.
International Children’s Festival of the Arts Online – 2021
St. Albert, AB
The largest children’s festival in Northern Alberta hosts more than 55 000 kids for six days of art and cultural events. While not all of the festival’s activities are free, there is a lot for families to partake in at minimal to no expense. The festival aims to be very inclusive, even offering tools for children with sensory processing disorders.
Have a Family Nature Night Various locations around the city —- Dates TBD
These free two-hour events are put on by the City of Edmonton and take place all around the city. Learn about Alberta’s plant life and critters from local nature-lovers in the city’s most beautiful green spaces. The events are designed for 4–12 year-olds, though all are welcome.
Watch the Sourdough Raft Race TBD 10 Rabbit Hill Rd NW
Head on over to Terwilleger Park for the 60th annual Sourdough Raft Race. Watch from the banks of the North Saskatchewan as participants set sail on their homemade rafts and partake in Edmonton’s river water fight!
Sign your kids up for the Kids Bowl Free Program and they can play two free games at a participating bowling alley this summer. A perfect rainy-day activity that gets kids out of the house and active.

Located at many city of Edmonton playgrounds, Green Shacks are your kids’ ticket to a summer filled with crafts, music, games and more. Visit your local shack for a schedule of the coming week’s events—all of which are free.
Take a drive to Discovery Canyon Park 3800 Riverbend Drive Red Deer, AB
Complete with a lazy river, beach, playground and concession, Discovery Canyon has everything you need for a day of (free) summer fun! Pack a picnic lunch, and your own tubes, and enjoy the natural pools fed by the Red Deer River.
This free play area features:
