This is a show within a show about a dysfunctional touring company at an especially low point in their existence – for the struggling company to be able to pay their bills\, set pieces and costumes have been sold\, many cast and crew members have been let go\, and the orchestra is down to just one harried pianist forced to play on a little old keyboard. But this doesn’t stop the few folks that remain from putting on shows and simply recasting parts as they go. Yes\, hilarity ensues! Romance blossoms (or does it?)\, tentative friendships are formed (or are they?)\, much judgement is cast (most definitely!) and lives are impacted in unexpected ways that leave you laughing and scratching your head – it IS an ode to Gilbert & Sullivan after all\, so some head scratching must be expected! DESCRIPTION:A graduate from MacEwan University’s Bachelor’s of Music in Piano Performance\, he has achieved a Level 10 certification with the Royal Conservatory of Music\, and is a regular participant in the Edmonton and Calgary music scene as a freelance pianist\, keyboardist\, and sessional recording artist. \nHis debut album as a bandleader\, Para Sayo\, received joint funding from the Edmonton Arts Council and Alberta Foundation for the Arts and released in May of 2025. Striving to expand the presence of Asian-inspired jazz in North America\, Para Sayo explores themes of ethnic and cultural identity\, diaspora\, and the asian/POC sociopolitical experience through the lens of modern instrumental music\, while showcasing the artistry of many of Western Canada’s most exciting up-and-coming young musicians. \nJoshua would like to acknowledge that his career in playing Black American Music is possible because of the Black musicians that have and continue to pave the way for all jazz musicians. This is a show within a show about a dysfunctional touring company at an especially low point in their existence – for the struggling company to be able to pay their bills\, set pieces and costumes have been sold\, many cast and crew members have been let go\, and the orchestra is down to just one harried pianist forced to play on a little old keyboard. But this doesn’t stop the few folks that remain from putting on shows and simply recasting parts as they go. Yes\, hilarity ensues! Romance blossoms (or does it?)\, tentative friendships are formed (or are they?)\, much judgement is cast (most definitely!) and lives are impacted in unexpected ways that leave you laughing and scratching your head – it IS an ode to Gilbert & Sullivan after all\, so some head scratching must be expected!
