Merging polyrhythmic structures inherent in African music with elements of acid\, techno & ambient\, 2nd time in YEG! \n\n\n\n\nOKRA presents \nAfrorack \nBrian Bamanya\, known professionally as Afrorack\, is a Ugandan multidisciplinary artist\, engineer\, and musician who has pioneered Africa’s first DIY modular synthesizer. Driven by a passion for electronics and a desire to make modular synthesis accessible in Uganda\, Bamanya constructed his own synthesizer using locally sourced components and self-taught engineering skills. This innovative instrument\, also named “The Afrorack\,” serves as both his artistic moniker and a symbol of his commitment to blending technology with African musical traditions. He has appeared at several international festivals which include Sonar\, Rewire\, Elevate\, Dakar Art Biennale and CTM among others. In May 2022\, Afrorack released his self-titled debut album\, The Afrorack\, through the Ugandan label Hakuna Kulala. The album showcases his unique approach to electronic music\, merging polyrhythmic structures inherent in African music with elements of acid\, techno\, and ambient sounds. Tracks like “African Drum Machine” exemplify his use of Euclidean rhythm sequencing to create complex\, algorithmic patterns that echo traditional East African rhythms. The album was received with popular acclaim making it to several music writers’ best albums of 2022 including The Wire Magazine top 50 albums of 2022\, The Quietus best of 2022 and He has also been featured on the BBC world service radio. Afrorack’s innovative work continues to inspire a new generation of musicians and technologists\, bridging the gap between traditional African music and contemporary electronic soundscapes.

SUMMARY:The Stampeders
DESCRIPTION:‘They’re on their way\, to the city lights’ … and\, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes\, Carry Me\, Oh My Lady\, Devil You\, Ramona\, Minstrel Gypsy\, Hit the Road Jack and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ … maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed  t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming … By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman. \nIn March 2024\, just before the Ontario leg of this tour\, Ronnie King passed away. In the final days\, while in  palliative care\, he insisted that his band mates carry on.  Dave  Chabot\, renowned bassist and long time friend of the band\, who was already scheduled to be on the tour to sit in for Ronnie as needed\, was the obvious choice.  Still\, Ronnie remains a presence at every show\, as Rich and Kim share stories from 50 plus years on the road and pay tribute with a retrospective video. \nThe enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders  … One More Time … ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!’

DESCRIPTION:‘They’re on their way\, to the city lights’ … and\, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes\, Carry Me\, Oh My Lady\, Devil You\, Ramona\, Minstrel Gypsy\, Hit the Road Jack and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ … maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed  t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming … By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman. \nIn March 2024\, just before the Ontario leg of this tour\, Ronnie King passed away. In the final days\, while in  palliative care\, he insisted that his band mates carry on.  Dave  Chabot\, renowned bassist and long time friend of the band\, who was already scheduled to be on the tour to sit in for Ronnie as needed\, was the obvious choice.  Still\, Ronnie remains a presence at every show\, as Rich and Kim share stories from 50 plus years on the road and pay tribute with a retrospective video. \nThe enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders  … One More Time … ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!’

DESCRIPTION:With Guests The Surfrajettes \nThe Reverend Horton Heat is the stage name of American musician James C. Heath (born 1959) as well as the name of his psychobilly trio from Dallas. Heath is a singer\, songwriter\, and guitarist. A reviewer for the magazine Prick called Heath the “godfather of modern rockabilly and psychobilly”. \nThe group formed in 1986\, playing its first gigs in Dallas’ Deep Ellum neighborhood. The core members are Jim “Reverend Horton” Heath on guitars and lead vocals\, and Jimbo Wallace on the upright bass. The band signed to Victory Records in 2012\, and released its 12th studio album\, Whole New Life\, on November 30\, 2018. \nThe band plays rock and roll with influences from 1950s country music\, surf music\, punk\, big band\, swing\, and rockabilly standards.

DESCRIPTION:For over thirty-five years\, SAGA has led the way in music innovation and audience interaction. Throughout this time\, the band has released 21 studio recorded CD’s under the umbrella of major record companies and has filmed over 20 music videos. Saga has sold 10 million albums and performed in over twenty countries to over fifteen million people. The HELIX band was formed in 1974 in Kitchener\, Ontario. In 1979\, they released their own indie album\, Breaking Loose\, on H&S Records. H&S stood for HELIX and Seip. From 1983 to 1989\, HELIX would release four albums on Capitol: No Rest for the Wicked/Walking the Razor’s Edge/Long Way to Heaven/& Wild in the Streets. These albums produced the hits Heavy Metal Love\, Rock You\, Gimme Gimme Good Lovin’\, Make Me Do Anything You Want\, Deep Cuts the Knife\, The Kids Are All Shakin’\, Wild in the Streets\, and Dream On. In that time\, they also sold 2 million albums and toured with over 200 of the world’s greatest recording acts
