DESCRIPTION:Raffi\, North America’s preeminent family entertainer\, returns to the stage in 2023 with a series of #belugagrads concerts. \nRaffi is a singer\, songwriter\, producer\, author\, lecturer\, and tireless advocate for children. He is best known for his work as a children’s entertainer and advocate whose string of gold and platinum-selling recordings includes his iconic song\, “Baby Beluga”. Once called “the most popular children’s singer in the English-speaking world” (Washington Post) and “Canada’s all-time children’s champion” (Toronto Star)\, Raffi is also a recipient of the Order of Canada and the United Nations’ Earth Achievement Award. He has published three books for adults and holds five honorary degrees. He has never advertised to children or made any commercial endorsements aimed at kids. His commitment to treating his young fans with respect has changed society’s outlook on music made for children. \n“I love singing for children and families\,” says Raffi. “In 2023\, I look forward to hearing more ‘beluga grads’ and their kids singing favourites like “Baby Beluga\,” “Down By The Bay\,” and Bananaphone!” and others from my Best of Raffi album.” \nIn 2010\, Raffi founded his non-profit Raffi Foundation for Child Honouring. Merging polyrhythmic structures inherent in African music with elements of acid\, techno & ambient\, 2nd time in YEG! \n\n\n\n\nOKRA presents \nAfrorack \nBrian Bamanya\, known professionally as Afrorack\, is a Ugandan multidisciplinary artist\, engineer\, and musician who has pioneered Africa’s first DIY modular synthesizer. Driven by a passion for electronics and a desire to make modular synthesis accessible in Uganda\, Bamanya constructed his own synthesizer using locally sourced components and self-taught engineering skills. This innovative instrument\, also named “The Afrorack\,” serves as both his artistic moniker and a symbol of his commitment to blending technology with African musical traditions. He has appeared at several international festivals which include Sonar\, Rewire\, Elevate\, Dakar Art Biennale and CTM among others. In May 2022\, Afrorack released his self-titled debut album\, The Afrorack\, through the Ugandan label Hakuna Kulala. The album showcases his unique approach to electronic music\, merging polyrhythmic structures inherent in African music with elements of acid\, techno\, and ambient sounds. Tracks like “African Drum Machine” exemplify his use of Euclidean rhythm sequencing to create complex\, algorithmic patterns that echo traditional East African rhythms. The album was received with popular acclaim making it to several music writers’ best albums of 2022 including The Wire Magazine top 50 albums of 2022\, The Quietus best of 2022 and He has also been featured on the BBC world service radio. Afrorack’s innovative work continues to inspire a new generation of musicians and technologists\, bridging the gap between traditional African music and contemporary electronic soundscapes.

DESCRIPTION:‘They’re on their way\, to the city lights’ … and\, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes\, Carry Me\, Oh My Lady\, Devil You\, Ramona\, Minstrel Gypsy\, Hit the Road Jack and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ … maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed  t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming … By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman. \nIn March 2024\, just before the Ontario leg of this tour\, Ronnie King passed away. In the final days\, while in  palliative care\, he insisted that his band mates carry on.  Dave  Chabot\, renowned bassist and long time friend of the band\, who was already scheduled to be on the tour to sit in for Ronnie as needed\, was the obvious choice.  Still\, Ronnie remains a presence at every show\, as Rich and Kim share stories from 50 plus years on the road and pay tribute with a retrospective video. \nThe enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders  … One More Time … ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!’

Heath is a singer\, songwriter\, and guitarist. A reviewer for the magazine Prick called Heath the “godfather of modern rockabilly and psychobilly”. \nThe group formed in 1986\, playing its first gigs in Dallas’ Deep Ellum neighborhood. The core members are Jim “Reverend Horton” Heath on guitars and lead vocals\, and Jimbo Wallace on the upright bass. The band signed to Victory Records in 2012\, and released its 12th studio album\, Whole New Life\, on November 30\, 2018. \nThe band plays rock and roll with influences from 1950s country music\, surf music\, punk\, big band\, swing\, and rockabilly standards.

SUMMARY:Lou Barlow
DESCRIPTION:Lou Barlow has been among the most powerfully distinctive\, influential\, and prolific figures in independent music since the 1980s. He was a member of three important bands\, Dinosaur Jr.\, Sebadoh\, and the Folk Implosion\, as well as making time for a solo career\, and the common thread between his contributions to all these projects come from his gift for penning simple but memorable melodies\, and his willingness to bare his soul and expose his insecurities. As a bassist\, he took a supporting role in Dinosaur Jr.\, as the leader of Sebadoh he was a pivotal figure in the lo-fi revolution\, and with the Folk Implosion he managed to land a single in the pop Top 40\, 1995’s “Natural One.” Though his proper solo career didn’t begin until the 2000s\, 2005’s Emoh and 2015’s Brace the Wave show he’s still in firm command of his style and his gifts \n \n
